JCI Edinburgh: International

JCI is a worldwide organisation, so if your interested in meeting people from different cultures or travelling then JCI opens up some fantastic opportunities in this area.

Where did Junior Chamber International (JCI) come from?
JCI was founded around about the same time as the United Nations following the Second World War, by a group of like-minded Junior Chamber members. They wanted to create a way of fostering good relations between the peoples of the world, along the lines of the U.N. but focussed on young people.

Being international at a local level
You'll find that when people move to Edinburgh and are looking for a network of friends they quite often turn to JCI where it's easy to meet new people.  So we have quite a mix of members from around Scotland and from around the World.  So you can meet people of different cultures right here in Edinburgh.

We also have a JCI Scotland National Conference in April every year where you can meet members from around Scotland and usually a high number of international guests mainly from around Europe.

Edinburgh has a twinning which JCI Galway in Ireland, so we also like to build up friendships with them and try to run some projects together.  Ireland and the UK also run their own conferences so it's possible to travel short distances and meet lot's of new people.

Being international at a World Level
The JCI world is split into 4 different area's, Europe, Asia, Africa and America.  Each area runs an area conference in late spring early summer.  The European Conference is usually in the first week of June and moves around Europe to various host countries.

European Conference - The conference is 3 days long (opens Wed evening and closes on Sat evening) will have approx 2000-5000 attendees and has various different areas which you can pick and choose between.  There will be Training courses run during the day, Parties every evening, Networking opportunities, Genearl Assembly for the running of JCI, Public Speaking and Debating competitions, Trade Stands and plenty of nice people to meet.

World Congress - The World level conference is usually slightly larger.  It lasts for 5 days and will have around 3000-10000 attendees.  The area's within the conference are generally the same as European Conference but on a larger scale.

Anyone that has attended a conference has loved it and we all say that if we could bottle up the atmosphere, bring it back here and open it, you would all want to attend!  A conference is something that any member can join in with regardless of how short a time you have been a member.  If your interested in hearing more about it, then contact us and we can chat you through the opportunities available.

You can see the conference which are happening this year by going to www.jci.cc and clicking on events.
